Tomorrow's The Day

19 December 2008 - 19:35.

I don't really talk a lot lately about things that are deeply personal. There's not a large number of people that know about my girlfriend, except for knowing that I have one. A few more know that I'm moving because I'm worried about my grandfather's health. One is very good, the other not so much.

And as much as I may get stressed about moving (and I do), I still have things to be glad about. I'm thankful for the help I received in both painting and packing, more than I can properly describe. I'm happy that my new place will be much larger than the old one. And I'll be very relieved to be living much closer to my grandfather.

The movers will show up tomorrow morning at around 9 am, so this is probably the last you'll hear from me for a while. The next 2 weeks promise to be exceptionally busy for me. I'm not at all confidant that I'll be properly connected before the new year. I'll try, but I'm not positive. Email will remain the best way to get in touch with me, thanks to my spanking shiny new phone.

So happy holidays all. Be good to one another and to yourselves. And try to remember those less fortunate than yourself, and do something in the true spirit of Christmas and giving. Remember that "you must be the change you want to see in the world" (M. Ghandi).

I Hope To God...

18 December 2008 - 09:04.

That this is some sort of belated April Fool's joke. I really do.

A new kind of cookbook.

Movin' On Down

17 December 2008 - 07:47.

Moving day is actually this Saturday the 20th. Nothing to help build holiday cheer more than moving 5 days before Christmas.

Also? The new place is nowhere near the Novus service area, which means I have to change service providers. Good bye to the blissful days of surfing on the Novus network, never having to wonder if it's the computer or the ISP, or waiting for my download to finish. Blazing speed I shall miss thee. (For those not in the know, Novus is a small TV and Internet service provider that serves primarily downtown. Their internet speeds make the other guys look stupid. As in, for less than $40 I get 10 Mb/s both ways.)

So not being a fan of the cable company in Delta, I called Telus. "Your internet installation technician will come by to install your service on Dec. 27". Ummm.... how about no? No, I will NOT be living a disconnected existence for over a week; not unless I'm on a beach somewhere hot, or traipsing through European castles. Besides, have you ever tried to talk tech with these installer types? If you actually know what you're doing, you quickly find out that they don't.

Telus is sending me a quick connect kit. My internet line will be provisioned on Friday.

Thanks Bettie

12 December 2008 - 09:44.

I'm really not surprised that this didn't get picked up in the U.S. news... the notorious Bettie Page has passed away.

For those who don't know who Bettie Page is... shame on you. To this day, she remains an icon in many subcultures. Go to any fetish night and you're almost guaranteed to see someone dressed like a pinup girl. I'll give you 3 guesses who popularized the look, and fact, of pinup models in the 'naughty' context way back in the 50's.

For someone born in the 20's, in the U.S. southeast, conservatism wasn't a political view, it was almost a religion. And still she helped to pave the way toward open discussion about all things sexual, by bringing it out into the open herself. Many of us probably owe her more thanks than we realize.

Thanks Bettie. Rest well.

Only In Vancouver

12 December 2008 - 07:39.

Only in Vancouver would the news radio station lead of with a story about the impending arrival of less than 2 inches of snow.

Bloody lightweights....

Not A Happy Camper

09 December 2008 - 08:54.

I move in 12 days. I still haven't begun to pack. And the place I'm moving into isn't ready yet. To top it all off, I have a fairly nasty chest cold right now. To say that I'm stressed would be somewhat akin to calling Mt. Everest a hill.

On the positive side however, nothing is bleeding, and my back isn't hurting anymore. So I can't be that bad off, can I?

Need Assistance

02 December 2008 - 17:38.

Right... I'm moving in under 3 weeks, and I need some help. The new place has a ton of painting and crap that needs doing, and I'm simply not going to have enough time to get it all done.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you know how to put paint on walls or apply masking tape, let me know.

In other news, this move is now officially the single largest source of stress in my life.
