Shingles

As some of you know, I've decided to start working for myself. And I have to say that throughout the whole process, I've had some incredible support from a particular pair of friends.
In the first part, the extremely talented Tanya was kind enough to volunteer some of her time to design a logo for the company and to help me build a website... although really, she did the bulk of it; I just populated it with content. And on the other hand the wonderfully knowledgeable Sue has been helping me with some direction as well as phenomenal advertising.
To both of you... thank you. Sincerely and truly.
To others that have offered support and encouragement, I thank you as well. This is almost completely uncharted territory for me, and it's good to know that my friends are behind me.
For everyone else, if you need some good computer tech support, give CPG Systems a shout. And remember that where appropriate I pay healthy referral fees.

Thanks Andrew. I forgot to mention... I welcome feedback on the site, especially the text content.Posted by Andrew on 22 April 2007 - 20:06
Well, since ya opened the door...As a potential customer - I gotta tell ya, you use a lot of words to describe *how* you do what you do, but you are don't really say (with specificity) *what* it is that you do.
Hardware? Software? Malware detection? Custom programming? Networking? Hosting? Design? On-site? Off-site? Sales? New? Used? Training? Consultation? Phone-support? None of it is very clear...
You have to think like the intended audience. Not as tech-savvy as you are, most of them - and if they could understand the services that you provide, in the language you have presented here, chances are they understand enough to do the work themsleves.
I don't mean to say that you should *talk down* to your customers, but you really have to be frank with them, and tell them what exactly you do, and why they should choose you over anyone else.
With the way today's websites work, if I have to look for more than 60 seconds, and not see any of what I came loking for, I move on.
It also wouldn't hurt if you mentioned *something* about price, and hours of operation.

btw - I sent you a message visa the form on your site, and *usually* you get in the receipt a copy (or at least a summary) of the comments you submitted. In this case, it was blank. See a screen capture at http://www.user.dccnet.com/abak/grab_1.j..Posted by Soundy on 02 May 2007 - 00:28
Yeah, I dunno if it's been updated to Andrew's suggestions, but just looking at it now, all I'm seeing is a buncha marketing gobbledegook that doesn't say much of anything. All that's missing is leveraging some synergy, and you'd have something Scott Adams would be proud of :)Then again, I guess CEOs and bean counters go for that kinda thing...

Nope, not updated yet. But a few days ago I enlisted the help of someone who will be able to polish things up to a higher degree of sheen. Look for changes soon.
