Another One Gone

Technology comes, and technology goes. Today we mourn the passing of one of our dear friends, the VCR.JVC was the last company to produce these things, of which nearly a billion have been sold over the years. As of today, the standalone VCR will rank right up there with the Dodo, the sabertooth, and the sober English soccer hooligan.
Fear not though... you can still buy a VCR/DVD combo machine. Or you could just join the rest of us in the 21st century and just turf the tape altogether.
Your choice. We won't judge. Really.

Speak for yourself - I'll just the luddites all I want :DActually, I've been directly affected by the slow death of the VCR: we still deal with time-lapse-VCR-based security systems, and the last few years they've been getting harder and harder to service or replace. I believe Sanyo was the last manufacturer (at least of the ones our suppliers carry) to actually make them, and they stopped officially about 2.5 years ago... so as the channels have been drying up, we've been forced (darn it!) to tell our customers, nope, sorry, can't replace it, there are no more... you have to go digital now.
So far very few have complained, and even then their only issue is the immediately cost of a DVR... but they feel better after I point out that they won't have be buying and swapping tapes anymore :)
