How Much Is That...

Who the hell picks up a server and walks out of a building??
The company I work for used to have an office in Nashville TN until a few months ago. It closed, and all the assets were sent to the Seattle office, including a network attached storage device (also called a NAS). It's a 750 gigabyte collection of hard drives, optimized for fast file access.
And it's missing. We know it got here, but now no one can find it.
I've spent the better part of my day stressing over this device. They're not cheap, and we have specific plans for this thing, which will make many peoples' lives a lot easier.. So if you've happened to see a stray computer walking down the street, looking a bit worse for wear and somewhat forlorn, please let me know. It might be my missing NAS.
On The Road Again

So I find myself back in Seattle for yet another work trip. This time, I'm afraid I don't know how long it'll be for. At the best, I'll be home Thursday late afternoon. At the worst, it'll be late Friday night. I'm certainly hoping for the former over the latter.
Speaking of Seattle, I was watching the NFC championships last night, and yes, Seattle won. So they're going to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. Predictably, the media in the Greater Seattle area are full of we're-number-1-ism. And while I won't debate the difficulty in reaching the big game, I simply have trouble accepting that a team can play 20 games in a single year, and consider themselves to be the 'best'. In hockey, the playoffs are usually longer than that, let alone the regular season. 82 game regular schedule, and then an absolute minimum of 16 games in the playoffs. Typically a hockey team will play every 3rd night, on average, as opposed to every week.
Football players are wimps.

To Blog Or Not To Blog?
10 January 2006 - 07:07.
Ever wondered how many blogs there are in the world? Or who reads them?
This should give you some idea... it's a list of the 100 most popular blogs, as ranked by outside links in. Now, the top one on the list has nearly 70,000 links in, but is it a blog?
I took a look through the site. And at the date and time stamps. Is it a blog, or is it someone who simply surfs the internet all day for useless fluff (like my own), and posts what is found? My vote goes to the latter. Number 2 on the list appears to be someone who writes about technology. Amazingly, newspaper and magazine writers do the same thing, in what feels eerily like the same style. The third one is merely a collection of images labelled 'art'... some of them are really pretty thought provoking.
But again, is it a blog, as the definition is traditionally accepted? Or is it a nouveau-blog? Simply a medium adapted by mainstream media as yet another communications and marketing tool? The ever-pervasive effect of the mighty dollar, at work yet again....
Happy New Year
02 January 2006 - 18:16.
Happy New Year, folks.
So my Christmas vacation is finally over, and I'm back at it all. Amy was good to me, and the holidays were lots of fun. I just got back from Montana, and visiting my Mom. Work begins anew tomorrow.
And Amy and I are now living together. The furballs are here, and I'm bringing my stuff in slowly but surely. I seriously doubt that I'll be spending any more nights at my loft. So if anyone knows of someone looking to rent a fully furnished Gastown suite, all utilities and maid service included, let me know. I'll even pay a bird dog fee for this one!!
