Going Fast

29 April 2007 - 23:04.

On my way home tonight on my bike, I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop. Maybe it was the fact that he was a motorbike cop that was my saving grace, but he did not give me a ticket for doing 70 kph down Seymour street, which of course is a 50 zone.

Either that, or it was because I made him laugh. By asking if he pulled me over so we could swap test rides on each other's bikes.

Brassieres

25 April 2007 - 19:33.

Yep, the hockey game is on, and Jeff Cowan just scored for Vancouver. Pity that there's no one in Anaheim ready to throw a bra on the ice. Anyone want to bet that some of the 'towels' at Game 3 on Sunday will actually be bras, in case he scores again?

In semi-related news, I don't want to jinx things but the Giants are leading their playoff series 3 games to none. And altough I can't make it to either of the games this weekend (if needed) you can bet your asses I'll be buying tickets for when the WHL Championship comes to town. So if you'd like to come with, leave me a comment or shoot me an email.

*UPDATE* damn Ducks... what sort of mickey mouse organization names their sports team the Ducks anyways?

Shingles

21 April 2007 - 23:21.

As some of you know, I've decided to start working for myself. And I have to say that throughout the whole process, I've had some incredible support from a particular pair of friends.

In the first part, the extremely talented Tanya was kind enough to volunteer some of her time to design a logo for the company and to help me build a website... although really, she did the bulk of it; I just populated it with content. And on the other hand the wonderfully knowledgeable Sue has been helping me with some direction as well as phenomenal advertising.

To both of you... thank you. Sincerely and truly.

To others that have offered support and encouragement, I thank you as well. This is almost completely uncharted territory for me, and it's good to know that my friends are behind me.

For everyone else, if you need some good computer tech support, give CPG Systems a shout. And remember that where appropriate I pay healthy referral fees.

On Commitment

15 April 2007 - 11:14.

I was reading Tanya's blog and one comment in particular really got under my skin. The context here is that Tanya was remarking (among other things) about some of the frustrations of the dating world, and one of the comments was about trying to offer some support and encouragement. Or at least, that's how I took it.

But the commenter also used the term "starter marriage". And that specific pair of words really riles me up. Some would say that since I've never been married that I'm unqualified to comment on this, but they're entitled to their opinion and I would respectfully disagree.

My beef here is the idea that it's becoming progressively more common for people to think of marriages as being disposable conveniences, and that when things go south that the relationship itself is expendable. I've always thought that this lack of respect for the institution of marriage is a contributor to high divorce rates.

But wait! There's more!

Symfonia

12 April 2007 - 00:50.

It's 12:45 AM and the symphony has just begun.

One of the advantages (or drawbacks) of living in the downtown core close to the hockey arena is that you can always tell when the Canucks have won a playoff game. The cacophony of car horns is such beautiful music. This first movement will likely go for about 30 minutes.

Glad I'm Done

11 April 2007 - 16:07.

I've decided I'm going to start working for myself, instead of trying to find another job. I'm very happy about this decision, and I'm really looking forward to this next chapter of my life. I'm almost completely done with the website for my company, which I'll introduce to you all later. For now though there are more important things.

The NHL playoffs are starting. I'll speak to you in a couple months.

It's A Beautiful Day In...

10 April 2007 - 09:17.

... the neighbourhood, a beautiful day for a neighbour. Could you be mine? Would you be mine? Won't you be my neighbour?

Hi neighbour. It's a wonderful day today. The sun woke me up, it's warm out, and I get to go shopping later today. I love shopping, especially for technology toys. Today is another example of the Beautiful Life, and I'm really astonished at how many of these I've had since I quit my last job about a month ago. I highly recommend it.

Talk Talk

07 April 2007 - 10:13.

Does anyone reading this from the Greater Vancouver area use a VoIP phone at home? I've already spoken to one reader about their experience from one provider (Vonage), but I'd be interested in getting a comparative perspective, as well as possibly hearing about other providers and your experiences with them. Just drop me a line and I'll get back to you post haste.

Delays, Joost, and Reality

06 April 2007 - 16:05.

I'm really not sure why I said I would get to the rest of last weekend's wrap-up. The fact of the matter is, in the past couple months I've really been focusing on the experiential side of things in my life. I'm trying to stay away from too much analysis and planning, and instead concentrate more on the here and now, and living for the day. Don't get me wrong - last weekend was truly faboo and I truly adored the time I spent, and the people Ii spent it with. But the re-hashing of things seems to be less and less "Me" lately as I find myself drawn more to an appreciation of each moment for what it is.

And as I re-gain an appreciation of the 'now', I'm finding my balance and peace of spirit coming back. This work sabbatical thing is probably the best thing I've done for myself in a while. My world is coming back into focus, very quickly and with dazzling precision. I'm really enjoying the view.

And on a completely unrelated topic, I have Joost invitations. There are 3 left. First dibs will be to those that I know personally (email or phone me), and if there's anything left afterwards it'll be first come first served. Once there are none left I'll post an update here.

UPDATE: Joost invites are gone. now.

Weekend Wrap Up Part I

02 April 2007 - 08:51.

Well, wasn't that a busy weekend...

On Friday, Matt, Matt's Dad, Tanya and myself went to watch the Giant's eliminate the Chilliwack Bruins from the WHL playoffs. And as much as I might be glad that an expansion team made it to the playoffs in their inaugural year, I'm even happier that the G-men took them out in 5 games. We're looking at getting tickets for the next round, and this time I'm thinking about collecting a group of people. As of right now the dates are not confirmed, but the opponent is... the Seattle Thunderbirds. If you'd like to come watch an inexpensive plyoff hockey game, then email me or leave a comment.

After the game it was off to a pub with Tanya a few of her friends. Of course, whenever there's a pub, you know that all bets of sanity are off, as they relate to me. Friday was no exception, and there was much inebriation. But in the final accounting Friday was really good, and that's the important part. The photographic evidence of debauchery, which I'm working on acquiring, is just the icing on the cake........
