Welcome to the Web, version 2.2

25 February 2008 - 07:40.

(cross posted from http://technologyincheck.com)

Web 2.0 brought us social networking sites like MySpace or Facebook, as well as popularizing blogs like this one. It was a dramatic shift in thinking about the interweb, changing it from being a tool to being a place to play.

Web 2.1 expanded on that functionality by adding mashups, web-based applications like Google Docs, and expanding the collaborative sphere with tools like Microsoft’s Sharepoint. People started to look at how they could expand the boundaries of what they were working on, and how they could do things on the Internet instead of the local machine.

And today I read about some new items coming out now that I think of as Web 2.2 because it again changes how the world will see computing. But wait! There's more!

Cars

21 February 2008 - 06:13.

Has anyone else noticed lately that there seems to be a lot more of the high-end cars driving around? A few years ago I remember it being uncommon to see a Ferrari. The other day I saw 3.

I thought that it was perhaps my neighbourhood, but I'm seeing these cars all over. Aston Martin, Bentleys, Maseratis... the city seems to have a lot ore of them. Have the prices come down? Or has the number of people wealthy enough to afford these cars gone up?

Disclaimers

05 February 2008 - 06:30.

So I'm watching Fantastic Four last night on Global TV, and after every commercial they come up with a disclaimer that says "This program may contain scenes of violence" and the voice over guy stresses the word 'may'.

Excuse me?

What do you mean 'may'? Are you not sure? And you simply reporting second hand commentary? Is there a grey area as to the violent nature of a super-hero flick? Gimme a break, people. Of course it's violent! There's only two real resons to watch that movie anyways - Jessica Alba, and the fact that things in Vancouver get blown up (the film was shot here).

Pfft. 'May'.......

Get Up Damn You!!

01 February 2008 - 17:29.

This one is too damn funny. The nice folks at ThinkGeek, who are already geeky enough to make me look normal, have come up with the ultimate weapon to battle sloth.
"For years the masses have told you that if you snooze you lose. You never believed them. You held your head high and slept in whenever you wanted to, always without fear of loss. Well, dear friends, the times have changed. The ingenious sages at ThinkGeek Labs(TM) have finally created the Ultimate weapon against snoozing - the SnuzNLuz(TM). People who enjoy sleeping in are cowering in fear all across the globe - it's finally true, when you snooze, you lose! ThinkGeek, it sounds great! But how does it really work? Glad you asked....it's quite simple actually. The SnūzNLūz uses the very complex psychological phenomemon known as 'HATRED'. Basically it's human nature to wish harm upon your enemies. Similarly, it's human nature not to give your enemies gobs of cash so that they can grow big and dominate the world with their totally wrong, stupid and invalid point of view. ThinkGeek realized that. That's why everytime you hit the snooze button, the SnūzNLūz will donate a specified amount of your real money to a non-profit you hate. The problem of sleeping in is solved."
Yes folks, you can get your own right here for the low low price of $39.95 US plus delivery. And for those of you who think this must be a joke, I have really bad news for you......
