Let It Begin

Let the roast begin. And by roast, of course I mean the slow cook on a spit over a toasty warm fire. Mats Sundin certainly seems like a bust, Luongo has been mediocre, and Vigneault is doing more juggling than a circus sideshow act.
So which of these three should be the sacrificial pig that gets roasted? Or do you have your own preference?
Life or Something Like It
25 January 2009 - 10:44.
The fiasco that is my grandfather's apartment only gets more and more amusing every day. He's out of there for at least a month. The damage is fairly extensive, the mould is present is several locations, and he's living with us for at least the next 3-4 weeks.
Business is busy, life is busy, and quite honestly I'm not crazy about it. I've always enjoyed living a simple, drama-free existence, and lately I feel like I'm being pulled in more directions than my body can tolerate. Don't get me wrong here... I love having my grandfather here, as well as my girlfriend. It's just... an adjustment. In the meantime, I feel like I'm existing instead of actually living.
I need to find a way to start living again, and pretty soon I think.
Beta Fish
17 January 2009 - 08:35.
Many of you have heard, I'm sure, about the release of a beta version of the next Windows operating system. Being the Microsoft bitch that I am, I.................... did nothing.
Then I started reading the reviews, which have been admittedly mixed. A common theme is that "it looks and feels like Vista, until you start using it". Alrighty then... so I'm starting to use it.
From a geek point of view, the install onto my Latitude D600 laptop was pretty simple. I didn't even need to enter a product key till near the end of the process. (Note to other Dell users: if you're having trouble loading Win7 onto the D600, try using an external DVD-Rom drive... the onboard one is pretty old, and doesn't read newer data disks very well). Otherwise... yeah, it's just like Vista.
The interesting thing to note, for me, was the fact that on install Windows actually refers to itself as Windows 7 Ultimate. Which sort of suggests that MS will go with the same silly 4-pronged approach they use with Vista. Personally? I hate the 4-pronged approach. The only thing that should have 4 prongs is my fork.
I'll write up a full review of Windows 7 after I've used it for a bit. Give me a week or so.
If I Can Be Geeky
13 January 2009 - 09:32.
Just a brief moment of geekiness here... Non geek types should feel free to skip this post.
For the longest time, I've been running my work stuff on an older PC, with a video card that is slightly older than the Flintstones, and less ram than you get in most new computers you buy today (having problems with Vista? Buy RAM). As well as a 17" monitor with a power supply that is literally almost as thick as a brick.
I'm just finishing up the build on my new PC, and I'm actually pretty excited about it. As in, I haven't been this excited about a computer since the last time I bought a server. 64-bit operating system, multiple computer cores, 4 gigs of ram, and best of all, triple monitor support. Yes, that's right... three monitors (even though I'll only be running two to start with). Can you say "multitasking"?
Care to bring me down a peg or two? Leave a comment and let me know what you're running for your primary PC.
Back Up
07 January 2009 - 09:32.
I'm back online. It's not perfect, but it works. I still need to do some work to acquire some products to complete the networking setup in my new home.
To say that the holidays were stressful would be a gross understatement. I won't even go into except to say that the stress levels were terrific. Not good terrific. Bad terrific.
I will give one highlight though... on Christmas eve I was over visiting my grandfather (the main reason I moved to Tsawwassen), only to discover that much of his floor was wet with standing water. Turns out that the roof of his building had a couple feet of snow, and it was raining. So the water, having nowhere to go, was seeping into the building underneath the flashing of some exhaust or another. And coming down inside the walls. Seeping into his suite.
It's still not dealt with, although the restoration company is due by today.
