Wondering...
23 September 2007 - 12:25.
I was out for breakfast with a bunch of other rowers this morning. A couple of them, women both, started discussing boobs. Another woman joins in, and the conversation continues.
Why is it that women can talk about boobs around other women with impunity, but as soon as men start talking about boobs, all hell breaks loose?
Can someone explain this to me please?
Yet More on Moving
21 September 2007 - 13:40.
I forgot to mention one small thing about the movers... one of them accidentally went home with a set of house keys, and an elevator fob. A couple phone calls later the guy came back downtown from Burnaby, on his own time, to return them. More kudos.
I'm really liking the new place. We have a 2-bedroom with 2 full bathrooms, gas stove and fireplace, and can directly see the rowing club from the master bedroom and kitchen. It's amazingly quiet, even though we're right on Georgia St, and only 17 floors up.
The unpacking goes.... on.
When you move, do you unpack quickly or does it sometimes take you a while?
Post Moving
19 September 2007 - 23:02.
First off, let me say that if you're ever moving. let your friends off the hook and hire someone. The stress to yourself and the friendships just isn't worth it. Second, let me say that I spent a length of time working as a mover. I did it for 2 summers, just about every weekend, so I have a frame of reference.
The guys that moved my place were phenomenal. 2 1-bedroom apartments going into a 2 bedroom apartment. Elevators at all 3 stops to contend with, one of which was *really small. They were early. They laid down carpet in the new place so as not to track up the 'new' carpet. They didn't stop to take breaks every 30 minutes. And they were done everything in 6 hours, including travel time.
Need a mover? Call Mini Move. Ask for Phil and Garth. They were great.
Now I'm going to go back to unpacking boxes from the disaster area commonly known as a living room.
More On Taxation
14 September 2007 - 08:43.
They've done it before, and now they're doing it again.
Jen has a
post about a recent news item regarding the
Cooperative Auto Network being assessed PST by the provincial government. And this isn't the first time that the tax auditors at the BC Consumer Taxation Branch have taken liberties with their interpretation of tax statutes.
Some of you may remember a situation some 4 years ago when the
Georgia Straight newspaper was assessed $1 million dollars, on the grounds that it didn't qualify as a newspaper under the letter of the law.I was working with (not for) that particular branch of government at the time the first debacle hit the news, and I'm glad I'm not there now. Please don't get me wrong - I enjoyed my time there, and the majority of the folks there are conscientious and morally good people.
However there are a few staffers there that took what I felt to be an unhealthy delight in planning and executing the assessment of hefty tax bills. I remember conversations with people (who shall remain unnamed) who had a disturbing gleam in their eyes as they discussed their plans for assessing sometimes millions of dollars in tax bills.
For some reason I'm just not surprised that they're still trying to apply broad interpretations to the law, to the detriment of the socially conscious.
Hidden Google App!

Got Google Earth? Like flight simulation software? You're in luck!!
For a while Google has been releasing "unofficial" applications, and the latest version of Google Earth has one too. Seems you can launch a flight simulator from within the application, and fly around at a number of different locations in an F-16 fighter jet.
Complete story is

More hockey

C'mon people... is no one in this city a fan of championship hockey teams?
Hockey Season!
01 September 2007 - 10:35.
It's almost here folks... hockey time!
I won't bother to weigh in on the Canucks' new jerseys - there's enough of that already. Besides which, I don't really go to many Canucks games; they're pretty expensive. Now the Vancouver Giants, on the other hand.....
September 29th is the Giants' home opener, and will be the raising of the banner for the Memorial Cup champions. I'm going. Matt is going. Who else is in? I'd like to get a decent sized group to this one, and I'd like to get tickets sooner rather than later, since the game will likely be close to a sell-out.
So if you'd like to see some good hockey at a decent price, drop me a line or leave me a comment. The more the merrier!!
